The Larks
Saturday 11 April 2026
The Larks are Queensland’s leading unaccompanied harmony folk group. They sing mostly English folk songs that are centuries old bringing them to life and putting the songs in their historic or social settings. Their songs have been passed down from generation to generation with each generation modifying the words and tunes.
Their prime influence has been the Copper Family who lived in Rottingdean, Sussex (on the coast about 10 miles from Brighton) from 1593. They worked as shepherds and farm labourers until the farm they worked on was broken down for urban development around World War 1. They are now based in nearby Peacehaven. Seven generations of the family have sung some of these songs. Most uniquely the last five generations have sung songs in harmony – mostly in cross generational groups. Currently three generations of the family sing together. Equally unique the family has recorded their songs and family customs themselves and countless folk song collectors.
The Larks songs are of love, sailors, soldiers, miners, drinking and some of the wide variety of ceremonial songs including carols, wassailing songs and pace egging songs. The Larks re-energise these old songs without losing the integrity of the folk tradition. They love singing in harmony and invite audiences to join in their choruses and refrains.
Though they come from varied musical backgrounds including folk choirs, sea shanties, and bush bands they have in a few short years become leading interpreters of old folk songs. They also sing a limited number of more modern songs that are sympathetic to the traditional material they sing.
The Larks are invited guests to the Canterbury Folk Festival at Easter and are making a short tour of Nelson-Marlborough.
“The Larks kick off the formal program at the Neurum Creek Music Festival with their gorgeous accapella harmonies!!” Ian Dearden, photographer/performer/reviewer.

Scott Cook & Pamela Mae Duo
Friday 13 February 2026
Born in West Virginia and raised on the Canadian prairies, Scott Cook quit a job teaching kindergarten in Taiwan in 2007 to embark on the life of a full-time troubadour. He’s toured nearly nonstop across Canada, the US, Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere ever since, living out of backpacks and campervans, averaging over a hundred shows and a dozen summer festivals a year, and distilling his experiences into empathetic, keenly observant verse. Since 2022 he’s been joined full-time by his sweetheart Pamela Mae on upright bass and vocals, crisscrossing 45 US States and 8 Canadian provinces in their campervan Roadetta, and covering a fair bit of Australia in their HiAce Hector. In 2026 they’re bringing the duo project to New Zealand for the first time with an extensive tour of 16 dates spread across the North and South Islands. Scott’s seventh album Tangle of Souls spent two weeks at #1 back home on Alberta’s province-wide community radio network CKUA, and earned Scott his third Canadian Folk Music Award nomination, for English Songwriter of the Year. Its second single “Say Can You See” was the second most-played song of 2020 on Folk Alliance International’s folk radio charts, and took top honours for the folk category in both the 2020 UK Songwriting Competition and the 2020 Great American Song Contest. This tour is in support of Scott’s eighth album Troubadourly Yours, which comes packaged in a 240-page hardcover book of liner notes that is equal parts memoir and manifesto. Fans of Cook’s well-travelled poetry and direct, open-hearted delivery have been captivated by the addition of Pamela Mae’s homespun harmonies and the pair’s spacious arrangements on upright bass, guitar, banjo and mbira. Fresh from the open road, these are sturdy, straight-talking songs that see the good in you.

All this accompanied by Seel’s impressive guitar playing.”
Both are award winning long term musicians taking audiences through their life journeys in music and song.

Tamsin and Phoebe are a mother-daughter duo from the beautiful Riwaka Valley in the Nelson/Tasman region. The music they bring is inspired by traditional Celtic and folk songs, as well as other genres such as Kesmic, tango, Balkin and Gypsy. Phoebe and Tamsin write a lot of their own original music and their set features violin, vocals, tin whistle and guitar. Tamsin studied classical viola at Massey University before falling in love with the wildness of celtic, gypsy, jazz and folk styles. She started writing her own music and managed to share the flair with her four daughters. So when Phoebe picked up the guitar, started singing like a lark and also found she could write beautiful music, mother and daughter struck up a musical alliance.
They began performing for the local community at public functions such as fairs, festivals, concerts, ceilidhs, parties and weddings and have been guest artists at Canterbury Folk Festival and Whare Flats Festival in Dunedin.

Thomas Loefke
Friday 20 June 2025
Islands in the North Atlantic, like Tory Island – the Irish island of legend and myth, the Hebrides in the Northwest of Scotland or the wild archipelago of the Faroe Islands situated between the Shetlands and Iceland – these are the places where harpist and photographer Thomas Loefke spends a considerable amount of time every year to compose music. Dramatic coastal landscapes, the wide open space of the Atlantic ocean and the ever changing sky reflect in the pieces of music created there. The tunes are accompanied by photographs Thomas took during his travels to the islands and by a bunch of amazing stories, a combination which makes this solo program a very entertaining show indeed. From the sounds of the Celtic Middle Ages and the lively dances of Irish folk music to the many original compositions each tune has its own texture, atmosphere and story to tell. Thomas learnt his trade in Dublin from Ireland’s leading harp players – Máire Ní Chathasaigh, Helen Davies, Janet Harbison and Áine Ní Dhúill. Since 1984 he has toured across Europe, Canada, the USA and New Zealand and has won several international prizes, including first prize at the O’Carolan Harp Festival.

The Early Bobs
Saturday 14 June 2025
Featuring Bob Dylan’s 1965 album ‘Bringing It All Back Home‘, which was Dylan’s turning point musically, and as Dylan often did, tremendously influenced the direction music would take in music’s integral late ’60s years. Versatile and inimitable musician Clayton Taylor has been performing classic Dylan almost as long as the bard himself, give or take the few decades between them. Clayton does Dylan proud, and with banter that keeps the audience happily entertained. He was joined by Mandolin Maestro Nate Torvik for the great night.

Holly ‘Cookie’ Baker On Tour
Thursday 12 June 2025
Raised on a farm by the seaside in rural South Australia, Holly ‘Cookie’ Baker’s trademark sparkling vocal and the poetic grit of her cool wordsmithery paint a portrait of this pint-sized melodic force to be reckoned with. Now based on Kaurna land, Cookie creates lyrically-rich alternative country folk and dreamy pop that is all at once breathtakingly intimate, cinematic and compelling. Cookie’s LP, ‘This Is Not A Love Song’, is the perfect introduction to her wide range of influences and the whip-smart character of her songwriting. It swings the pendulum dramatically from tongue-in-cheek and unapologetic country nursery-rhymes-for-adults, to sweeping indie pop heartbreakers, to introspective and sparsely decorated contemporary folk.

The Best of Francis Maxino
Saturday 7 June 2025
Francis Maxino is a composer, pianist-singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who originally harks from Canterbury. In his early twenties he established himself as a veritable Pied Piper of Christchurch, where he was involved in a variety of capacities including Arts Centre entertainer, composer/producer for dance choreography such as the 1994 Festival of Flowers, town hall pianist, minstreling at medieval themed corporate events, session musician, work for TV and Film production, collaborations with other local and international professional musicians and groups, Freedom Tibet concerts, Hiroshima Peace Day ‘piper’, and performing live at innumerable venues, festivals and events throughout the country and abroad. From the street to the concert stage his music has enthralled and delighted audiences of all ages and backgrounds for many decades, whether it is in the role of a merry piping minstrel at markets or cobblestoned European town squares, performances of his moving piano solos, serenading with classic ballads, high energy contemporary songs or occasional late night, beat driven, live electronic pop, rock and dance music.
Having performed with exotic musicians and thereby learnt and been introduced to various types of music from all over the world, Francis regards his approach to the art of music as ‘progressive’. By melding elements from non-western ‘world’ and traditional folk music of various global cultures, western music from historical ancient medieval to neo-romantic/contemporary classical, jazz, blues, latin, reggae, folk, rock and other modern genres he blends styles to create new flavours of music that could come from anywhere, everywhere or anytime, but in a unique futuristic way all his own using ancient and modern instruments and methods.
For the Ruby Bay Store gig, Francis has compiled a personal ‘best of’ collection of his life’s works including a few favourite covers. They range from piano solos and songs to larger scale electronic and ‘orchestral’ pieces utilising voice, acoustic piano, his state of the art synthesizor workstation, guitar, recorders, ocarinas, whistles, melodica and yidaki/didgeridoo.

HAPPEN Films Presentation;
“Ben and bEartha” &
“The Rubbish Trip“
Sunday 11 May 2025
Ben & bEartha follows the story of passionate composter Ben Bushell of Nelson’s Community Compost. Through the inspiring story of Ben and his dedicated composting community, we get to know bEartha, an automatic composting machine that’s about to revolutionise small-scale commercial composting.
Why is composting important? What is aerobic composting? How can mechanical composting support the need for food waste solutions? And what’s the story with “community composting” anyway?
Find out in this inspiring film about a potentially game-changing approach to making compost on an urban scale.
The Rubbish Trip; What does it mean to be on the zero waste journey? Why is it important for us each to take personal responsibility for our waste? Hannah and Liam are the motivating couple behind The Rubbish Trip, originally a nationwide tour offering free zero waste workshops around Aotearoa New Zealand. Now experts on the why’s and how’s of reducing waste, Hannah and Liam are our personal zero waste heroes. Eight years without a rubbish bin, they are educators, advocates, and activists on a subject that is ultimately about so much more than waste.
For this film, we asked Hannah and Liam about their perspective on what it means to be zero waste, what it’s taken for them to make suitable lifestyle changes toward that goal, and their work in advocacy and activism. This short film offers inspiration and encouragement to all of us, no matter where we are on our waste minimisation journey.
Hannah and Liam’s story offers another opportunity for Happen Films to contribute to the global conversation about waste. It is topical and it needs urgent action. We see it as a critical subject to be discussing in our households, communities, businesses, and with our governments: how can each and every one of us assume responsibility for our impact on the planet and on each other and work towards the necessary system change?

Mark Laurent & Brenda Liddiard
Friday 8 November 2024
For more than three decades Mark Laurent and Brenda Liddiard have been playing music together, part of that secret army of ‘indie’ musicians who fly just below the commercial radar, playing grass-roots, mostly un-plugged music throughout New Zealand, Australia and the UK.
Mark Laurent plays the blues like his life depends on it! His guitar is just about as expressive as his vocals and confirms the guitar hero status that he earned several decades ago when his professional music career kicked off in the 1970s.
His wife and performance partner Brenda Liddiard has a voice born of true folk, protest and alt country sentiments. Brenda has been greatly influenced by English and American acoustic music and found her niche as a songwriter during her passionate involvement with environmental and anti-nuclear issues dating from the 70s and 80s. Her album, Box of Memories, was a finalist in the 2013 Tui Awards for Best Folk Album.
Laurent and Liddiard together present an eclectic mix of material that can be ‘pin drop’ delicate, or sound like a full band. They sometimes pepper their sets with short bursts of poetry and stories of a road well travelled.
This is sure to be a fantastic night, so don’t miss out!

Warren Love – Love Songs
Matariki Tour
Saturday 29 June 2024
New Zealand country folk songs with a uniquely beautiful voice – a curb side story teller. Warren Love on vocals; Patrick Bleakley (ex-Blerta) on double bass; and Louise Perzigian on banjo.
Tasman resident Louise bought her Om banjo while living in the US and has been dedicated to learning to play it ever since. Nationally recognised singer songwriter Warren, who was nominated in 2006 for a NZ Music Award in the best country music category, heard her play at a recent birthday party “I was struck by the subtleties of Louise’s playing. It has a delicacy that is rare in an instrument renowned for being loud and dominant when played in a bluegrass context.” Bluegrass country is not really what Love does. His songs are better described as soft, alternative country folk. His voicing has the subtlety of a Leonard Cohen. Perzigian’s banjo is a good match.
It also happened that jamming at the birthday party was Patrick Bleakley one of New Zealand’s finest jazz double bassists and Perzigian’s dad. These three fine musicians come together to undertake a Matariki weekend tour which includes their last tour gig at the Ruby Bay Store. “We are looking forward to playing in the theatre. It has an intimacy that lends itself to our acoustic focus,” says Love. A fortuitous synchronicity has been a feature of the trios formation, “When booking the tour I had no idea Louise lived nearby.”
Good fortune all round indeed!

Not ones to think too far outside the square, their show features songs and tunes written exclusively about and within a 50 km radius of the ill-famed Manawatū city. Craig Hubber
Saturday 2 September
Queenstown based singer-songwriter Craig Hubber’s musical career began treading the seedy stages of Sydney’s ‘The Rocks’ district. Night after night, he honed his craft of performance and vocal dexterity as lead singer in a plethora of cover bands.
A passionate writer, Craig decided to turn solo after his bands refusal to include original songs in their repertoire. A decision the band was to regret soon after, as his self-penned song, ‘Bondi Dream,’ became a local hit, getting high play rotation on Bondi FM, establishing him as a top local singer-songwriter. A chance encounter on a return visit to his native Invercargill, saw his song, ‘Kiss Twist,’ being picked up for the movie, ‘The Fastest Indian.’ Craig, accompanied with hand pick session players, performed his song in the Tisbury Hall dance scene. The fastest Indian became an international success and his song has been heard by millions. Craig’s songs are of travel and relationship. Listening to Craig is going on a journey. A journey that stimulates, entices and leaves the listener feeling all the better for it.
The wonderful troubadour Andrew White opened for Craig.

Steve Mitchell
Saturday 29 July
A familiar name to music audiences around the region either as a solo acoustic performer or with Nelson bands The Scintillators and Humankindness, the emphasis is on Steve’s original songs. Drawing on a love of classic Pop and Soul songwriters from the 60s/70s, Steve strives to create songs that are thought-provoking, hard to define but easy to enjoy. Best-known as a slide guitarist, he describes his guitar playing as “a homegrown funky finger style of no fixed genre – a mix of folk guitar, gospel and pre-war Country Blues.” Lyrics matter most to Steve, but there has to be a hookline. “I’m always so pleased when people pick up on the lyrics, that’s where the hard work goes in! Putting meaningful words to a good tune is the age-old challenge. I write songs with the hope that people find them rewarding and enjoyable”.
He was a member of Sun City Soul & plays in The Barnstormers – the house band of the Tasman Bay Blues Club. Steve has opened for artists as diverse as Jackie Bristow, Grant Haua & Adam McGrath & recently played guitar for Kiwi-born Australasian boogie-woogie piano legend Jan Preston.

Chris Long
Friday 26 May
Chris Long was raised ‘off-the-grid’ at Gorge River, in the wilds of South Westland, New Zealand. Two long hard days walk from the nearest road, in a small house overlooking the rough Southern Ocean. His family is known as “New Zealand’s most isolated family” and he and his sister Robin grew up without the internet, TVs, computers, play stations and game boys. Instead they had fishing rods, wooden toys, tree houses, a river, a kayak, snorkelling gear, surf boards and books to keep them entertained. There were videos of his Antarctic adventures, and he told some great stories. His recently published book “The Boy From Gorge River” was there too.

Matt Joe Gow and
Kerryn Fields tour with
‘Your Heart of Gold‘
Wednesday 17 May
Have a listen to this great interview of Kerryn Fields by Kim Hill on RNZ 7/5/23 and Kerryn’s gorgeous song ‘Atlantis’.
‘Your Heart of Gold’ is the hook-laden debut single from
Matt Joe Gow & Kerryn Fields
from their forthcoming album, due for release in 2024. The song finds the duo trading verses over a bevy of acoustic instruments, where a golden sunset frames the troubadours out on the open road, nostalgia running deep between them.
“With you I feel like a child again
Like when the rain came down in the summertime
Bare Feet on warm pavement
And all the hope in my heart”
With multiple awards to their names and thousands of miles between them, Matt Joe Gow & Kerryn Fields are bonafide masters of their craft, having discovered a natural chemistry as performers, the union of their songwriting enables them to explore new depths in their music.
Their ragged edge comes steeped in Alt-Country influences,
building their sound around acoustic instruments and
honest songwriting while devouring records from Bob Dylan, Gillian Welch, Tracy Chapman, Grant Lee Phillips,
Dave Dobbyn and Neil Finn.
Matt grew up in Dunedin in the South Island of New Zealand, a place with bad weather and good music, meanwhile Kerryn was raised in the North Island with one hand on guitar and the other firmly upon her heart. A kindred connection with their homeland brings an emotive strength to their music and gives their songs a sense of place and purpose.
“The combined talents of both these two artists is really a perfect match and the chance to see them performing together should not be missed” – Myles O’Neil-Shaw PBS FM
Celebrated artists in Australia, Matt Joe Gow & Kerryn Fields are Music Victoria Award winners for their respective solo records and have appeared on festival stages such as Port Fairy Folk Festival, Out On The Weekend, Queenscliff Music Festival, Riverboats, Kangaroo Valley Folk Festival, Blue Mountains Music Festival, Out On The Green and Tamworth Country Music Festival. They’ve brought their live show home to Aotearoa to celebrate their debut release in conjunction with NZ music month!

We Mavericks
Saturday 13 May
Returning to Aotearoa this May, We Mavericks pack mighty punches, but bring songs to heal your scars. Featuring only a foot-stomping Kiwi and a small-town Australian, this troubadour duo make music that is more than the sum of its parts.
Lindsay Martin’s masterful violin, mandolin and vocals meet Victoria Vigenser’s mesmerising voice and guitar work, in driving rhythms and a connectedness you must see to believe. Imagine an organic blend of lyrical pop and acoustic folk, but with echoes of soulful Americana in the harmonies, and Celtic roots running deeply throughout the instrumentation.
A certain trademark tightness and their strangely gritty, evocative performances have seen them on a steep and fast rise to the big stages in both home countries; Spotlight showcase artists for Folk Alliance International 2022, nominated Aotearoa (NZ) Music Awards “Best Folk Artist” 2022, nominated Australian Folk Music Awards “Artists of the Year, Best Duo/Group/Ensemble” 2021 and recipients of the 2020 Troubadour Foundation Award, We Mavericks continue to enthral audiences far and wide. Touring their keenly-awaited debut album “Grief’s a Gardener” they bring connected and grounding originals that can melt even the hardest of hearts.

We Wayward Divas
Saturday 6 May
Gilly Darbey and Vikki Clayton; “We take our music very seriously but we love to have fun too”. Both are famed for their beautiful voices, write much of their own material and between them play several instruments. Singing songs of love and life. Not to be taken lightly these women have impeccable pedigree when it comes to musical careers. Between them, and sometimes together, they’ve worked with Van Morrison, Richard Thompson, John Martyn, Fairport Convention, Joan Armatrading, Ralph McTell (blah blah – the list is endless) and they are too modest (old) to remember them all – Needless to say highly respected by their peers, they’ve toured the world, played major festivals and events (did ya spot Gilly at Live Aid?) and, armed with nothing but their voices, charm and prosecco, they thrill audiences everywhere. Both of them born in the UK but now happily living in New Zealand.

Nick Feint, Flo Pauls
& Pluto’s Eyes
Saturday 29 April
Sharing the love of songwriting and using music to tell stories and convey a message.
Singer-songwriter Nick Feint has an innate ability to bring in depth stories to life in his songs with heart and good humour. Bearing traces of Billy Bragg, Nick’s musical mix of wordplay and direct emotion makes for a strong and satisfying set…” Charlotte Yates, Musician.
Nick’s album “Next Exit From Babylon” is available on Spotify.
Starting out as a solo act, Flo always felt that only one guitar and a voice wouldn’t do it for him. Inspiration came when watching Ed Sheeran live-looping at his concert. So Flo got himself a loop station and spent many a night in the sleep-out, hoeing away at crafting beautiful songs using only a loop pedal and guitar to create unique, whole song experiences. Music that will invoke moments of reflection and inspiration as well as opportunities to dance. “Mesmerising to watch!”
Flo’s songwriting has received praise and recognition by the NZ Songwriters Trust contest.
Flo has lived and worked at the Riverside Community for more than the last ten years. His family are the inspiration for quite a few of his songs.
Pluto’s Eyes are Phoebe and Ruby. They have been playing together for over two years. They both contribute to all aspects of their songwriting process, weaving humour, poetry and harmony into a folky, indie, rock-pop sound. They love sharing their thoughts through music. They’ve performed in many places including open mic nights, parties and festivals.

Turkey The Bird
Sunday 16 April
New Zealand’s folk trio “Turkey The Bird” will remind you of the famous Margarita cocktail infused with a hint of “Simon & Garfunkel”, two ounces of “Mumford and Sons”, a splash of banjo and served on ice on a sunny day.
Catchy folk songs with stunning rich melodies and effortless smooth lyrics. Songs that tell uplifting stories about love and life.
Hailing from the New Zealand left coast town New Plymouth, this uplifting band will hit you with beautiful three part harmonies and toe tapping rhythms.
The bearded trio features Andre Manella from Switzerland on guitar, bass and percussion, Adrian Whelan from Ireland on guitar, mandolin, bass and spoons, and Sol Bear Coulton, the token kiwi, on Banjo and slide guitar.

Ruth Wyand
Saturday 8 April
All styles of American Roots Music (Americana, Folk, Blues, Jazz) – being diversified is Ruth Wyand’s specialty. Demonstrating guitar virtuosity with powerful fingerpicking, bottleneck slide and a warm alto voice Ruth plays a mix of Americana, jazz, blues, folk, country with a portion of Piedmont picking and bluegrass clawhammer thrown in. Her song writing is universal, using a melting pot of styles with lyrics that are timeless, relatable, emotionally resonant, sometimes witty, sometimes serious but always human and genuine. Ruth presented a mixture of originals with poignant lyrics as well as well-crafted instrumental arrangements of classics ranging from Doc Watson, Etta Baker, Jimi Hendrix, Leo Kottke to Thelonious Monk and Nina Simone.
Each song, no matter how different, has a firm Ruth Wyand stamp of style on it.
“Wyand’s shows and recordings demonstrate some serious guitar playing and passionate singing. She also displays a sense of humour that ranges from the rather subtle to practically in your face. That being said, she will bring a smile to your face or a tear to your eye if you focus on the lyrics. If you focus on the musicianship, her skilful command of the fretboard will impress every guitarist in the room”…

Rennie grew up in Wellington with Celtic music in his blood. Having heard the traditional music of Ireland and Scotland on his parent’s CDs as a baby, he grew up knowing he just had to learn to play like that. He picked up the flute at age 8, learning by ear in Irish sessions under the guidance of Galway born flute player Pat Higgins. With Irish music as the cornerstone of his knowledge, he then went on to delve deep into the traditional music of Scotland and maritime Canada, on the way gaining proficiency in a wide range of different instruments. Rennie has made a name for himself in the Irish music scene of New Zealand and Australia. He has performed with great traditional musicians such as John Carty, Catherine MacEvoy, James Kelly and more. He has taught throughout New Zealand and internationally, both solo and with a range of other musicians such as Rob Zielinski, Oscar West and Gillian Boucher. Most recently he taught wooden flute at Ceol Aneas (New Zealand’s Irish Music School), accompaniment at ScotStrings Camp (New Zealand Scottish Music School) and traditional music workshops at Auckland and Whare Flat Folk Festivals. In 2021 he toured with Irish dance sensation, Celitica, as their flute and bodhran player. He also released an album with fiddler and small-piper, Oscar West as the kiwi folk duo, ‘Polytropos’, in 2020. At the age of 19, he studied with wooden flute virtuoso Chris Norman on the east coast of Canada, as a live-in apprentice. He has since taught alongside Chris at many Boxwood Festivals in New Zealand and Australia on guitar, whistle and flute.

Luke Thompson
Wednesday 7 September 2022
Luke Thompson didn’t mean to take five years to finish 2021’s The Trials & Tribulations of Adam & His Seed, the follow-up to 2016’s Tui-nominated Hosts. The concept for the album had been percolating for a while, an unformed sense; a “spirit, a hunch, a colour”. A return to folk music at its most elemental definition; songs as cultural stories, spanning generations like family heirlooms, that in the end had been set free right on time. After the long-awaited release, came another test of patience to be able to take the expansive, philosophical album on the road and explore it in a live setting. Now, thanks to the support of the New Zealand Music Commission’s Aotearoa Touring Programme, and the perfect winter setting, that wait is finally over. The Ruby Bay Store is pleased to be included in Luke’s tour of Aotearoa.
It promises to be a warm and intimate night of music and connection. After an almost three-year hiatus from touring in New Zealand, Luke explains his excitement and curiosity to return to the road, “…I have a feeling we will all be more present and aware of the magic of gathering. This has always been my favourite part of playing music to a group of humans.” Ready to hit the road and connect with audiences once again, Luke is excited … “I don’t have much of an appetite to do the same old thing. I hope you can come out this winter and we can see what happens as we gather around the modern day camp fire and stare at the flames together.”

Barry Saunders
with Alan Norman

3pm Sunday 24th July 2022
Our Ruby Bay Store opening music event launch featured Singer/Songwriter Barry Saunders, with Alan Norman playing keyboard and percussion. Such a wonderful night and first weekend!
“With deep rural roots, and a restlessness that has taken him down every backroad, through ghost towns and past shuttered memorial halls, it is understandable that Barry Saunders has become one of New Zealand’s most recognisable voices by describing the country and its characters. The last 50 years have been a continual road trip of shared music, conversations and observations that have all led to songs that tumble out like faded photos from a much-thumbed album. Since the mid-1980s he has fronted The Warratahs, whose songs have become part of the NZ soundscape. Alongside his work with The Warratahs, several solo albums have provided Saunders with a more personal outlet for his prolific song writing and his gritty, everyman voice.” John Pilley.
Alan Norman has been part of the Wellington music scene for over 40 years. He’s played and recorded with many bands and musicians, including blues band ‘Smokeshop’, and country blues band ‘The Windy City Strugglers’. For the last five years he’s been playing with country folk band, the ‘Rag Poets‘, and with ‘The Warratahs’.

We Wayward Divas
Gilly Darbey and Vikki Clayton
7pm Friday 8th July 2022
Our pre-opening gig…
“We take our music very seriously but we love to have fun too”. Both are famed for their beautiful voices, write much of their own material and between them play several instruments. Singing songs of love and life. Not to be taken lightly these girls have impeccable pedigrees when it comes to musical careers.
